Role Introduction

We are seeking a Cargo Services Supervisor to join our Cargo Commercial team in Sydney. This role plays a key part in leading cargo service delivery, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient cargo operations while supporting Cathay’s commercial and freighter strategies.

You will work closely with internal teams, handling agents, and external stakeholders to drive operational excellence, service consistency, and continuous improvement - while developing and leading a high‑performing cargo services team.


Key Responsibilities

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with Cathay, local, and international aviation safety, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage safety matters related to cargo services, including Dangerous Goods handling, cargo build‑up, freighter load control, and aircraft loading.
  • Execute Emergency & Accident procedures and Business Continuity Plans when required.

Service Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Support the development and implementation of Cargo Servicing Plans and monitor handling agent performance through defined KPIs and service levels.
  • Drive operational excellence with vendors to ensure safe, efficient, on‑time freighter and passenger aircraft operations with optimum uplift.
  • Support the execution of cargo service delivery strategies set by Head Office and Regional Management.
  • Coordinate closely with ports, regional teams, and corporate stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication.
  • Optimise space and weight utilisation through close collaboration with cargo sales teams, handling agents, and key customers.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are current, understood, and consistently applied by employees and suppliers.
  • Oversee Unit Load Device (ULD) inventory to support operational demand, including seasonal peaks.
  • Conduct quality checks, audits, and assessments, ensuring timely resolution of follow‑up actions.

Freighter Operations

  • Support and implement the area’s freighter development plan to meet agreed performance targets.
  • Monitor freighter on‑time performance and work with stakeholders to address service gaps.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews at freighter ports.

Efficiency & Process Improvement

  • Ensure timely communication of Cathay Cargo notices to all team members and suppliers.
  • Actively manage rostering to ensure sufficient manpower in a cost‑effective manner.
  • Identify future service and manpower needs, standardising processes where possible.
  • Act as a designated trainer and coach cargo team members to uplift capability and consistency.

People Leadership & Performance

  • Lead, support, and motivate the cargo services team to achieve operational and service excellence.
  • Build a strong, engaged team culture aligned with Cathay’s core values.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports, supporting performance management and succession planning.
  • Maintain regular dialogue with team members on performance, development goals, and engagement.
  • Enhance the employee experience in line with Cathay’s internal brand promise.

E&A

  • Emergency, Accident, and Crisis Response responsibilities as required.


Requirements

Professional Qualifications

  • Tertiary education or equivalent, preferably with a cargo or logistics background.

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in cargo operations, ideally with a customer service background.
  • Experience in supervising or leading teams in an operational environment.
  • Knowledge of freight load control and freighter ramp/loading operations is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of CHAMP CargoSpot systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative leadership style.
  • Proven ability to work independently, set priorities, and achieve performance targets.
  • Good analytical, problem‑solving, and planning capabilities.
